The situation in Lebanon remains highly volatile and unpredictable, with escalating clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, including daily rocket attacks, missile strikes, and air raids. As conditions deteriorate, the Government of Canada remains committed to prioritizing the safety and security of Canadians in the region.

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, has announced temporary measures to assist Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members who have fled Lebanon, as well as Lebanese nationals currently in Canada who are unable to return home.

Immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who departed Lebanon on or after September 29, 2024, will be eligible to apply for an open work permit, a study permit, or a status extension at no cost once in Canada. This applies to spouses and dependants, regardless of their nationality or whether they left Lebanon through flights arranged by Global Affairs Canada or other means.

Additionally, Lebanese nationals already in Canada with valid temporary resident status can also apply for an open work permit, a study permit, or a status extension at no cost.

These measures aim to support Lebanese nationals in Canada, ensuring they have a safe environment to work, study, and stay while keeping families united.

Canadians are strongly advised to avoid all travel to Lebanon. Those currently in Lebanon, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their families, are encouraged to leave via commercial means if it is safe to do so.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has enhanced its capacity to process applications from the region and continues to prioritize applications from Canadians, permanent residents, and their families in Lebanon.
